IOF Core Ontology Press Releases - OAGi Releases IOF Core Ontology Version 202401
Jim Logan posted the press release to LinkedIn
1) IOF Calendar
Todd requested that the working group chairs try to keep the IOF calendar entries up to date (e.g., cancellations)
Michelle said that she will help with the calendar updating
Milos asked about how the time zones are used or set (in the calendar)
It was explained that the time zone (for calendar display purposes) can be set in the ‘Account Preferences’, see https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/account-preferences (must be logged in).
2) Architecture TG - Formal Review of Normative Documents – Voting
Will Sobel was not present to provide an update on the voting
3) Additions to the IOF:Core ontology – Suggestions
Farhad suggested adding industry classifications (e.g., UN classifications, https://unstats.un.org/unsd/classifications/Econ/Download/In%20Text/Isic31_English.pdf)
Elisa explained how OMG uses these ‘classifiers’
Todd asked what the used cases or requirements for using ‘classifiers’
Elisa suggested using parts of FIBO for representing businesses and ownership
The requirement for the IOF seems to be to provide the constructs so that users can ‘import’ and make use of which ever classification scheme they need
These constructs should be in the core
Farhad will create a use case (for the use of ‘classifiers’)
Ana suggested ‘Facility’ and ‘Ownership’, which are currently in the PSS ontology
Perhaps the IOF can (re)use the FIBO work on ‘ownership’ (which can be very complicated)
Milos will create an Epic to keep track of these suggestions
4) Ontology Development Process
Will Sobel was not present to lead the discussion, but there a short discussion
Todd brought the issue of providing and annotating the source of natural language definitions and how it may be accomplished (e.g., comparing multiple sources against requirements and using a ‘nested’ annotation for the source)
Jim Logan asked about the nested annotation problem w.r.t. the serialized
Elisa explained that the ‘problem’ is not with the serializer but it is Protege’s default XML namespace declaration the OWL language IRI and this confuses the Serializer
Solution – Explicitly declare the XML namespace prefix for your ontology using the IRI of the ontology
5) Common Core Ontologies – Review?
Elisa suggested having a Confluence page to collect comments (from IOF members)
Need to add URL for the ontologies to be reviewed
Todd will create the Confluence pages
