OAGi

A member-driven non-profit standards organization.

  • The Open Applications Group, Inc.

1

OAGIS

OAGi’s enterprise canonical standard.

  • The Open Applications Group Integration Specification

2

Score

A browser-based tool used to manage OAGIS and BIEs created from OAGIS components.

  • The Score Tool (@Jim Wilson discourages use)

3

component
(in an OAGIS context)

An OAGIS message definition or any part of an OAGIS message definition.

  • core component2

  • CC

4

BIE

An OAGIS message definition associated with one or more business contexts. A BIE is the result of a profiling process.2

  • Business Information Entity

  • message profile

5

business context2

A formal specification of the scope of applicability for BIEs.

  • context

6

BOD

Context dependent:

  1. BOD schema: An OAGIS message specification that conforms to the BOD Architecture. A BOD schema is an aggregate component (ACC).

  2. BOD instance: An OAGIS message instance that conforms to a BOD schema.

  • Business Object Document

  • message

  • message schema

7

aggregate component

A component that is a structure.

  • aggregate core component2

  • ACC

8

basic component

A component that is a value (technically it may be a small structure that includes a value and supplementary components)

  • basic core component

  • BCC

9

supplementary component

Essential extra information associated with a basic component to enable complete value semantics.

For example:

  • Price = 50 → raises the question “50 what?”

  • SC: CurrencyCode = “USD”

  • SC

10

BOD architecture

Message structure that follows the following pattern:

  • BOD

    • Application Area

    • Data Area

      • Verb

      • Noun

Where:

  • The Verb is any of the components OAGi designated as a Verb (e.g., Process).

  • The Noun is any component that appears in the BOD architecture as a child of Data Area, which is paired with a Verb. One can think of the noun as the “main” message payload (e.g., Purchase Order)

  • BOD name = Verb name + Noun name (e.g., Process Purchase Order)

noun

The Noun is any component that appears in the BOD architecture as a child of Data Area. One can think of the noun as the “main” message payload (e.g., Purchase Order)

11

verb

Any component in a set of components that OAGi designates as “verbs”. They are components that are paired with nouns in the BOD architecture to indicate the action or purpose of the overall message.

Notes

  1. Synonyms listed in this column refer to synonyms commonly used in conversation. With one exception (The Score Tool), there is no judgement here about whether the term’s use is appropriate, discouraged, or otherwise characterized (i.e., “it is what it is” as some might say).

  2. This term is formally defined in ISO 15000-5 Core Component Specification. OAGi leans toward being precise in its use of terminology. That said, some aspects of ISO 15000-5 are not relevant for business-oriented and many technical OAGIS-related conversation. Consequently OAGi may associate some detailed concepts with a more general term (e.g., ASCCP → ACC) or explanation (e.g., “a BCC is of a certain data type which has a code list” → “a BCC has a code list”).
