The charter of this task group is to discuss, document and implement the policies and procedures for developing, testing, releasing and maintaining IOF reference ontologies. This function necessarily includes policy and procedural recommendations and getting approvals from the TOB before anything new process or existing process is changed. This group’s purpose might become more of a permanent function and change the name to include Working Group. The rest of this page will be detailed Soon.
The current members of the group include: William Sobel Elisa Kendall tschneider Chris Will This Task Group was formed on March 17th, 2021 at the request of the TOB to document and institutionalize an initial set of policies and procedures for releasing the first IOF ontology – that being a first version of the IOF Core. More generally, the group is tasked with creating an extended version of such policies and procedures that can be implemented by the IOF domain working groups, and would be applicable to domain reference ontologies the IOF plans to release later this year and beyond. The role of the group is to first discuss, agree on and define policies and procedures for releasing ontologies, to make recommendations to the TOB, and to pilot and implement them upon approval. Although the group was formed as a task group with a specific goal to create an initial set of such policies and procedures for its first release of an ontology, the group’s focus and scope may well grow to include ontology development processes, and the on-going evolution of how the IOF develops and release ontologies.
